Monday Rant: 34 Weeks and My Birth Prep

pregnancy, third trimester, expecting mom, portland fashion blogger, pdx blogger,
photos by: Nikki De Leon

In about a month, I'll be meeting my little one. I've been doing a lot of nesting these days hence I've been m.i.a in the blogosphere. I've been on errand mode trying to get my birth figured out and since school is out for the summer with my fifth grader, trying to figure out camp situations.
Even though this is my second time around, I still feel anxiety and a little nervous about birthing. One, I'm 11 years older (my body definitely changed) and you never know what to expect. But I guess being at home delivering will be more comfortable for me. I had my first one at home, so this one is also going to be the same. I know you can't predict what's about to happen but here are some of the things that I've been doing to help myself prep for the birth.

Have a Birth Plan
This helped me out a lot with my first birth. Everyone that knows me, can tell you that I'm a super spontaneous person, but with this one, I want to make sure I have a plan. It doesn't need to be very detailed but just know who you want there and what each person's role are. I have some friends coming and they know that when they get a call, they have got to get their butts to my house. I find that this has been a great help especially with an 11 year old (someone has to watch her).

Birth Kit
I didn't know these things existed until the midwife told me about them. Personally, I think they are super helpful because all the things that you might need for a home birth is in a box. I got my birth kit from a local place in Portland but you can also find them online. Birth Kits include disposable sheets (it can get dirty), clamp for the cord, gauze, disposable underwear, and pads.

Clean
This is super important and one of the hardest things for me. Even though my partner has been super helpful with cleaning, there still little things here and there you want to accomplish as far as cleaning. Making sure the tub is clean (I want to be in the water), the floor swept, and getting the baby's clothes washed and ready to go.

Pamper yourself
I know that getting pedicures and manicures helped me relax with my first pregnancy. The last thing you want is to be super stressed before the baby comes. I remember getting a prenatal massage with my last one and it helped so much. Your muscles get so sore especially the lower back, I was feeling so good after and refreshed!!

Perennial Massage and Kegel Exercises
This might be TMI, but this kind of massage is necessary so you don't tear. This explains more of what a perennial massage is. Another thing that's pretty important is the kegel exercises. As you get older, it's important to do this other wise, you will find your self not being able to control your bladder. Trust me!

I hope some of these help. Just wanted to share my personal experiences with other expecting parent like me. I would love to know what you do to prep for the birth:) Leave me a comment! Would love to hear.

UNTIL THE NEXT ONE,
MARCH

Monday Rant: 31 and some weeks and My Baby Shower

baby shower, baby blessing, pregnancy life, mom life, portland blogger, fashion blogger, preggonista, pregnancy, third trimester

Until my girlfriends convinced me, I wasn't going to have another baby shower. But then it made me realize at the shower, that pregnant women like me really need this kind of community and support especially during towards the end of a pregnancy. It really showed me what kind of a strong tribe and community I was surrounded by and for that, I'm very thankful.

This pregnancy has been a whirlwind especially leading up to the finish line. There are definitely changes from the first one (I mean, who am I kidding, I was also ten years younger with Crea). I found out that I'm border line diabetic (blood sugar is right on the cusp), my iron is too low, and I'm not gaining enough weight. I mean, hello!! What's a pregnant girl to do? I've been trying so hard to balance everything that I was starting to feel like one of those crazy pregnant woman watching everything that I ate which is not my personality at all. It's not easy but it was great to be reminded that I still "got this" and feel surrounded by love and happiness at the shower.

A big thank you to all of my friends and family that came and showered me with blessings and love. I know that my squad will help me through my final days of pregnancy and I can't wait to share this little one and for them to get to know my baby!

Monday Rant: Third Trimester and My April Favorites

clothing, e.l.f., fashion, old navy, polyvore, style, april favorites 2016, portland fashion blogger, jean jacket, make up,

Good Heavens! When is this baby coming out? These are the thoughts that go through my head the last time I was getting my prenatal with my midwife. But on second thoughts, this little bundle of joy is still baking and it's not quite ready to come out. I say "it" because I'm not going to find out what the sex of the baby is until I push "it" out. Some people and a lot of my friends think I'm crazy {especially my girlfriends who are throwing me that shower} but for me it's something exciting about the feeling of not knowing. Crea was also a surprise. I guess my partner and I are just in for the spontaneous events.  I haven't even thought of any names....eeeks! If you have any ideas let me know in the comments below.
This time around, I'm a little bit more in the know of what helps me get through the last 2 months. I've rounded up my April Favourites of the things I'm loving and have been using to prep for the babes and my well being.

Food:
Granola Smoothie Bowls are the death of me. For real, I crave those things like nobody's business. Every morning, I stop by my local juice bar and get them. I love how the smoothie is so cooling and filling. Not to mention the berries on top. I always get them with extra granola.

Music:
Nothing in particular but I find myself listening to the Samantha James Station. Her sound is just so soothing, and relaxing. It helps me fall asleep at night. It also has me fantasising about traveling haha. Easy listening with a  little bit of rhythm.

Beauty:
I've been looking for a good concealer for a while now and the one that I absolutely loved from Rimmel got discontinued so I haven't had any luck until I decided to try Elf Concealer. It glides really smooth on my skin and blends just perfectly. It definitely has good coverage especially for everyday use. I use it to cover my dark circles under my eyes.

Random:
I've been re-reading books on pregnancy lately and I've gotta say my favourite book of all time by far is Birthing from Within. It really touches on how to understand your body and how to get the body ready for birth. I've really learned a lot about myself from this book. It has a lot of tecqniques for breathing and labor.

Fashion:
The weather in Portland has been really nice but it still gets chilly during the night time. I've been wearing this Jean Jacket  non stop. See how I paired it with this dress HERE and HERE.

Monday Rant: Going into my Third Trimester + Feeling a little Senti

mother's day, lavender candle, pregnancy, parenting, portland blogger, pdx style blogger, bridge nine candles, portland made

This is it, I'm starting my third trimester in a couple of weeks. It's the final push and I can't help but feel a little sentimental and with mixed emotions. I finally started to jot down things I might need to prepare for before the second baby comes and it made me think about the powerful women in my life and how in the world did they do it.  My mother for instance is the strongest woman I know. I don't think we (my brother and I) would be in a better life situation if she didn't work so hard to get us to another country (I was born and raised in the Philippines) for a a better life and a better future. And who would have thought to teach me simple details such as how to bath your baby and how to wrap them up so they sleep better no other than her. I mean don't get me wrong, all mothers have a little crazy in them and she is no exception but she knew me like no other. I'm just so glad that I have a great relationship with her now that I'm a mother myself. I can't wait for her to meet her second grandchild and maybe she has new tricks up her sleeves this time!

Styling my thick hair with Irresistible Me

irresistable me diamond flat iron, portland blogger, hair tools, straightener, the ptown girls, pdx fashion blogger
photos by: Maynard Villaflores
With my busy life, it's hard for me to spend a lot of time getting ready. But lately, since I've cut my hair a few months back, I've been meaning to style it up for Spring (inspiration--Rihanna). Now I'm no hair or makeup goddess. I don't know how to curl hair or style it up to the glam. So pretty much the only style I do with my hair is to straighten it. Now to get the perfect "straight" hair you will need a pretty darn good straightener. Trust people, when you've used a lot of straighteners and your hair gets caught and it doesn't get hot enough, it's frustrating.
irresistable me diamond flat iron, portland blogger, hair tools, straightener, the ptown girls, pdx fashion blogger

So when I got the opportunity to try the Irresistible Me Diamond Hair Straightener, I jumped at the chance. It's probably the only straightener that was able to really work with my fine, thick, dark hair. When I first held the device, I was shocked at how light it was. I was also impressed that it didn't take long for it to heat up. I mean 15 seconds is pretty dang fast if you ask me. It can heat up to 450 degrees and I also liked the rotating cord so it pretty much moves with me while I style my hair.
Another great thing about this product is that the plates are made with diamond and tourmaline so it preserves the oils in your hair leaving it frizz free.

The buttons are on the inside (how smart is that?) so you don't accidentally turn it off while using and it automatically shuts off after 30 minutes when you forget (like if you have pregnant brain like me). The price is not bad either compared to the other popular brands out there. I would definitely recommend this straightener. I've actually already tried it on Crea and a couple of my girlfriends and they really liked it! For more info Click Here Have you tried this product? What do you think?

Lately, I've been really feeling a nice structured vest. Or any vest for that matter. They are easy to layer and they are a must staple for spring and summer. This vest from Forever 21 is simple but you can come up with so many options for layering and styling. I've been seeing a lot of vest in different lengths and styles and I'm on the hunt for a 2: Oversized Denim vest that I can DIY and floor length vest. In this post, I paired by black vest with a long sleeved boyfriend button up and some black jeans. Finished it off with a wide brim hat (which I love!) and some docs.

February 2016 Faves

February 2016 Faves

Even though February was a leap year, I felt like the month went by fast. Happy March everyone! This is especially my favorite month (I'm sure you know why haha) because this is when Spring happens and it's also my daughter's birthday month! I've rounded up my favorites for the month of Februray! Drum roll please....

FOOD
I have more of an appetite now that I'm on my second trimester but my cravings are through the roof! I was obsessed with (and still am currently)  Skippy's Natural Peanut Butter with Honey. It is sooo delish! I usually eat it with another craving, Apples! I just slice it up and scoop some PB on there and it most def satisfies the craving.

MUSIC
Ever since Queen B came out with formation, that has been the non stop play on phone! I mean in my world, she always slays! Listen to it, and you'll know what I mean. PS: Also loved the message behind it!

FASHION
If you've been following me on Instagram, you would notice that I have been obsessing over these light gray 3 eye docs oxfords and I've been rockin' them on repeat. They are a great neutral color plus they go with everything that I have. Not to mention, they are pretty comfy. Perfect for work and being on my feet.

RANDOM
I'm a planner and calendar type of gal. I can't juggle everything on my phone so I'm so glad I found the cutest calendar from Paper Source. The one I got is really minimal but they also have other ones with the cutest designs and they are on sale for 75% at the moment!

BEAUTY
I'm no make up genius so I mostly don't spend a lot on makeup but I do like to contour. So when Wet N' Wild came out with their new highlight/contour palette, I wanted to test it out. It's nice because I've had bronzers before that were way too shiny or a little sparkly for my taste and this is just the perfect shade for me.

What were your favorites last month?

UNTIL THE NEXT ONE,
MARCH

Monday Rant: How I'm feeling with my pregnancy
this time around...

theptowngirls, fashion blogger, portland lifestyle blogger, pregnancy, second trimester
photos by: Maynard Villaflores

I'm finally on my second trimester and I'm feeling great! I have a lot more energy and I find the baby kicking most of the time. I gotta say, this pregnancy is very different from my first one. I guess I'm ten years older this time (why did I wait that long?) and I'm also working full time. But I've done a few things that helped me along the way.  With the second pregnancy, the bump is showing a little bit faster than I'd like it to be (I'm only 18 weeks and it looks like I'm 23 weeks).

I'm gonna keep it real right here. My first trimester was a hot mess! I had the worst morning sickness and I was extremely exhausted. I could barely get up. It felt like my body was shutting down. But I was optimistic. Now that I'm on my second trimester, I have better energy and can stay up a little later than norm. (woot!!) Another thing is, since I'm in my 30s, I'm considered "high risk" (meaning in the pregnancy world if you're 35 and older, you're "old" and I had take so many blood tests and more vitamin supplements because they said I'm anemic. GREAT!

I'm actually a little scared to give birth. Because now, I know what to expect. I'm just hoping that I can just pop the baby out no problem you know? I'm sure it's not going to be that easy but I'm ready to prepare my home (I'm having a home birth) and I'm doing things that has been helping me along the way.  So thankful for my partner and my daughter. They have been super supportive and helpful!

I'm not expert, I'm just sharing things that I'm doing that helped me along the way. I hope you find this helpful and feel free to comment and share your experiences as well.

1. Prenatal Yoga or any Exercise.
Since, I've gained my energy back, I've been wanting to go to Prenatal yoga. I took prenatal yoga when I was pregnant with Crea, and it helped with my birthing tremendously. I was able to relax and take deep breaths in between contractions. It was also a good way to exercise and stretch my body. I was also able to do some light meditations when I was in labor.

2. Water is key!
I have had so many juice cravings that sometimes I forget to drink water. It will be really hard once you become dehydrated during your pregnancy:( Just remember, you are now sharing nutrients with your baby so you have to double up on everything.

3. Eating in moderation
Just imagine your stomach and intestines being super squeezed because of a growing human in there that there's not a lot of room! Trust me, I have been eating so much that I was starting to have heart burn and that does not sound or feel good!

4.Taking time for yourself.
On my days off, besides doing Mom duties, if I don't feel like doing anything, I don't do it! I used to think OMG there's so much to be done in the house, etc. But I realized, when the new baby comes, I will have double of everything! So take the time now to relax and rest.

5. This might be an overshare, but Kegel Exercises are SUPER IMPORTANT!
If you're wondering what they are, its an exercise that strengthens your pelvic muscles. Like you're holding to go potty and you're flexing your muscles. Trust girl, this will help you before and after you have your baby! You don't want to be peeing all over the place!

Well I feel like I've ranted for a while now,  let me know if you have any mom or pregnancy advice that helped you along the way!

UNTIL THE NEXT ONE,

My First Impression: L'Oréal Paris Revitalift Products

loreal revitalift moisturizers, anti wrinkle cream, beauty, fashion and lifestyle blogger, portland fashion and lifestyle blogger, influentser

A couple weeks ago, I received the new L'oréal Revatalift Volume Filler collection. I'm always looking for new facial moisturizers and now that I'm in my 30s, I was curious to try products for younger looking skin. I received full size items of both the Day Cream and Night Cream. I also received the eye treatment and concentrated serum. I used all of them for about a week and a half and these are my thoughts {I feel like a detective haha}:

Re-Volumize Daily Moisturizer
I find the smell pretty strong but I got used to it. I'm not sure that it truly moisturized my skin. After putting it on, I put a little bit of make up and it felt like my skin was really dry after about a couple hours. I'm not sure if this is the moisturizer for me during the day.

Revitalift Volume Filler Night Cream
The night cream worked a little better for me. I felt like my skin was rejuvenated when I woke up and it didn't feel dry. It gave me a glowing look in the am. Again, the smell was a little strong for me but I guess I can get used to it.

Volume Filler Concentrated Serum
I haven't used a lot of serum before but I have to say, I like this one. It claims to replenish skin's fullness. I didn't see any difference using it for a week and a half so far but it feels like my face is more moisturized compared to the day cream.

Revitalift Eye Treatment
This is my favorite out of the four products. It didn't have a strong smell, and I love that it is helping get rid of my under eye puffiness and dark circles! When I run out of this one, I would grab another one. It feels good under my eyes. I put it on every morning and at night after washing my face.

Hopefully these first impressions are helpful. I will continue to use these products and keep you guys updated!!

January 2016 Favorites

I want to reintroduce monthly favorites into my blog this year. I feel like there are so many things I discover and I figure why not share with my readers right? I don't want to overwhelm you either so I chose my top five favorites and categorized them.

FOOD:
I am obsessed with Kellog's Red Berries Special K Cereal. Maybe it's part of my pregnancy cravings but I could seriously eat the whole box in one sitting even without milk! I think it's the perfect amount of tart (from the strawberries) and the sweet from the cornflakes. Loving it!

MUSIC:
Okay, make fun all you want, but at 34 years old, I have become a belieber. I was hesitant to even download the album on my music, but when I did I really liked the songs that were in there. It's that damn single, What Do You Mean? that got me all hooked. If you don't follow me on Instagram, I posted a quote I found about slowly becoming a belieber. Good job to his marketing team, they got him right back to the top!

RANDOM:
If you have been an avid reader of my blog, you would know that I'm truly a fan of Ban.Do anything since I've discovered them. I recently purchased some complimentary postcards that have the cutest sayings! I love sending snail mail to my friends and I've actually handed a few out to some of my peers!

FASHION:
I'm a booties kinda girl and I feel like I have found the perfect black booties. These are from 14th and Union via Nordstrom Rack and I have worn them on repeat almost the whole month of January. They are comfortable and since I'm on my feet all day long at work, they don't hurt my feet at all!

BEAUTY:
I have found the best cleansing water for my face you guys!!! This product from Garner is my new go to make up remover and cleansing water all in one. It really does take off all the makeup and gunk out of yo face, let me tell you! I first found out about this product just randomly watching youtube videos on drugstore makeup hauls, and thought I would try it cause it got really good reviews, and they were not lying! This is a great drugstore product you would want to try, trust me.

Do you have any favorites in any of these categories? Let me know in the comments below!
